wind beneath my wings!!!

hi there again!
how many times have you lately felt the wind in your hair, face, files, office papers and felt happy...the last few bits are irritating no..when whole of your file papers just swirl in the air all of a sudden or that one bill flies off the moment you switch on the fan.
or when you are trying to read that one bit of news in the corner of the newspaper and the corner doesn't seem to come in your hand or stay still:)

how come i am talking about winds  today....actually it is mainly to do with wings!!

who are the wings in your life? is wing more important part of the wind?
i mean do we flap the wings and then the wind works or the wind is there so the wings work?

the starting point for this was actually something very strange and amusing...its a nice combination, dont you think? something thats strange yet amusing?

can i deviate a bit and tell you guys a hilarious thing?

there was a rickshaw guy here outside our gate..who used to come in full sleeved shirt, nice scarf around his neck, lungi and socks and shoes...yes to top it all,he also wore goggles and golden smuggler type watch.
to just see him everyday was first shocking to my eyes and then funny like anything...i used to just look beyond him, somewhere else...promising myself to not laugh...he was strange yet amusing...
and then to my utter horror...ha ha....i waited to get a glimpse of him everyday!!

talk about love at first sight now!!!

anyways....coming back to where the wings came from!

meera was about to wear an underwear( i hope this is allowed on this site and page and whatever..to talk about undies)...which had small red and pink butterflies sitting on flowers. very cute design...and sure to perk her up when she is groggy and not in a mood to go to school

(i shall cover this topic and bizarre mood swings which happen bang on school bus time) in some other post....

i said oh look...this has butterflies..so she recalled a small line on one of kabir's t shirts which says...butterfly flutter by....and then one more time and then again one more time....

and after saying this...yes! you guessed it right! bang came the questions!

what is flutter by?
i answered...

second- why is butterfly called butterfly?
i told her that they fly very smoothly....ekdum makhkhan ki tarah....so she giggled....and said ah nice...

third...no....it was not a question
it was  a revelation..her eyes became big...and lips curled up in a 'O'...mummy....kya pata butterflies hi fairies ho?(mummy maybe the butterflies are the fairies)

and i gave her the same expression...i am not sure it was as cute as hers though!

i said yes it is possible..

and meera said like...like...like.....and i completed the line..saying yes like tinkerbell.
and she was so glad that there is a butterfly look alike fairy.

now came the next series of questions...hold on

why dont butterflies go everywhere on foot? :/

i told her that if she has to go on foot everywhere how would she ever know which flower has the juice and which has nothing..so how would she find her way? and she has to do everything in a scheduled time ..she has to report back to mother fairy / butterfly on time
and then she has to sit on every flower and carry the pollen everywhere else...so when they fly they can hover over the houses and check for the right flower pot

meera got a bit confused and she stopped asking more.

she said -yes she has lot of work....i think she should fly only.

do you guys tell your kids some stories about plants and birds and flowers and all?

i have told the kids that when kids sleep at night, the fairies come out and get to their special task for the night.
what is it?
no ...not story telling and guarding the kids etc.
its more important
they check each and every balcony and terrace...and see which ones have the plants and pots around...so they get down and start pulling each plant or stem or bud...and make them grow!!

they sit on the flower buds and tickle them and stretch them a bit so when we see them the next morning , they appear bigger to us and this is the reason why the money plants twines at our balcony are soooooo long..

this was a story told to make meera sleep....it hasnt worked though(the sleep part) but it sure does make her believe that the plants grow like this.
kabir says  mummy...the plants need sunlight, water and manure and soil to grow...so i say to him...yes yes..but meera cant read right now!:)

why this story came into my mind?

please watch a Japanese animation movie called- my neighbor totoro.

if my hubby is reading this. he can give you the link and all for it.
he was the one who downloaded it for us and we watched it and i can clearly say it is one of my favourite kids movies ever.
there is this jungle guard or king who comes by and pulls the plants out of the seeds...he does this pulling action in the air...and the plants grow....anyways... watch the movie.

very very very cleansing and therapeutic to watch movies with kids!

but please not bollywood movies!
i see parents letting their kids watch movies like dabangg and agneepath...its not their type or age or level or anything actually.

watch long animation movies (not just tv cartoons)
watch the movies with kids..like rio or nemo ...

and make them a part of your kids lives.
weave stories around them and incorporate that in your kids life.

why cant everything be a story?

like when your kid says ...eyuuuuckkkkkkkkkkkkkk...i wont take that medicine.its bitttttter!!!!
what do you guys do?

i tell them..there are germs inside your tummy  which is causing you pain, fever, cold etc...so doctor uncle has made this special medicine which has the small army inside the syrup...it would go and kill the germs.
now if the medicine is very sweet.it wont harm the germs, they would love it..they would say yum yum...give me more...and i would want to stay in this body forever...and if the syrup is a bit bitter, then they would make faces and fall down and run away...in all directions and finally out of your body.

it works!! try it!!!:)

and why cant be there a fairy for everything?

like for hair or baking cake?!!!!

or how the fairies help the puppies stay put at one place and be safe when mommy doggie has gone out for eating or getting  food.

it makes things easier....gentler for them. yes eventually they may all grow up and grow out of this fairy world....but what if they dont! whats the harm?

there can be a fairy specially assigned for us...god cant be everywhere with us..so this fairy is there.

if i am about to trip and fall and then....dont fall....voila!!!! the fairy was there!

if i was crying in classroom missing mom...and class teacher came and talked to me...pst!!! fairy told her to...

and if you want to eat that special thing tonight and mom makes it without you even asking her( believe me..all moms know what the kids want today or tomorrow...)....its the fairy who told her!

let there be winds beneath their wings...today and forever!!

be the winds beneath their wings...they fly or dont fly...they sure would thank you for the fairy that's specially assigned  for them!!

YOU:)

the purple flower!!!

how do we view kids? or how do kids view us? how do you view what kids view?
we often forget how kids view the world....
we have grown up...so we are taller and bigger than them and they are tiny...just about our knees or thighs....we assume they would understand it all the day they touch our shoulders....but they do now as well...
just that we dont seem to be seeing it...
why dont we all get down on our knees one day for maybe....one minute and view the world like the kids do...
and suddenly the plants would be fun again, the flowers would have so many colours and not just one plain boring flat on your face pink or orange or red...but it would have shades...starting from the stem to the point where the flower starts blooming...pardon my vocabulary on this one..and to the petals...and then the middle of the petal to the absolute center of the flower...
no wonder the kids have so many things to tell us or question..coz they see it all

or imagine from your 'knee-view'..you see a stone...it would be amazing..the shape being the first..or even the mere existence...the presence of that stone right in front of us..on the middle of the right side of the road where mom asked us to walk...or the left side where the vehicles are not there right now...imagine finding something so tiny right in front of our eyes...and then the pupils dilate and mouths open in surprise and shock like motion and the tiny hands just pounce on the stone...oh!!!! what an achievement!!! the colour , the texture and feel...the million lines which are visible from that height..(remember? the 'knee-view')....and we at our height..say oh...throw that right away...its dirty....but it isnt ma...its beautiful- they shout back....and we say its just a stone....what is special about it....but we havent gone down to their height and seen it...so we dont know the beauty of it...

last night while eating out..meera(my second child)- shall tell you guys more about the kids one day...spotted pots full of spring blooms outside the joint and she immediately sprung into action....oh see...flowers...so many colours....
and silly me- till then i hadnt even noticed that there were so many colors around me..i was busy telling kabir(my elder one) to wear his jacket and cap and then about to pounce on meera to wear her jacket...but there she was...standing demanding that we pluck just one flower...and we said no no no no....and she said why not...let me pluck one...no one's watching...and we said no no no no....and there she ran towards them...me scared....worried that someone would come and scold us...because from my height rest of the world was visible but from her height...only those beautiful flowers were visible...and she could only see me bending on to her level saying no no...dont break them...i dont want it...and she whispered..no no ..no one is watching ma...let me show you and off she went and plucked one gorgeous purple flower...(dont know the name)...and came right at me...said this is for you...and bhuwan and  I immediately grabbed the kids and said run run....its so much fun.....before anyone catches us...it was fun to do that....to just run out...knowing meera has plucked her  flower....how bloody long has it been since i did that? i mean seriously...does it matter if i pluck one flower just because i like it....there are sooooooooooooooo many flowers...and if i get one...just for myself...just once!!!..whats the harm? it felt good that meera could do it.

and there she turned around and said mummy..it is for you....
imagine..all the pains she took, argued with us, bent down animatedly while plucking the flower so that no one is watching her...anyways no one was watching her..:)....and this flower was for me...:)

i missed out on the fun ....i kept saying no no no...and she experienced the joy .....

if i had knelt down to her level and plucked it like she did...how much fun it could be....partners in crime....

not that i would teach her to pluck each and every flower around her...but she would surely remember this one...

and the whole time she kept holding it..
suddenly while crossing the road...at night... dark and all....not many colours clearly visible...she actually managed to remind me that the colour of the flower was exactly the same of the jacket i was wearing....and it so matches with me and both jacket and flower look pretty....and there i could again see that gleam in her eyes...that confidence and the joy that she had indeed chosen the right flower....went down and plucked it...while the world viewed something totally different!!!
